Meet Our Director and Owner Shirlanda Mitchell

 

Ms. Mitchell is a certified PreK-3rd grade teacher who is currently enrolled in a dyslexia certification program to better serve students who struggle with reading. She has taught in Baton Rouge and New Orleans, Louisiana, as well as worked in Houston, Texas schools, where she used a variety of creative reading and math strategies to accommodate her students' learning styles. Her experience spans from students in PreK to 8th grade in both special education and typical classroom settings.

 

Ms. Mitchell's passion for helping students has led her to create a tutoring company that provides year-round services to families. Her K-4th grade Academic Summer Camp focuses on academically oriented activities that review skills not yet mastered and introduce skills for the upcoming school year.

 

Ms. Mitchell's experience includes working with developmentally delayed, PreK4, students with autism, ADHD, speech impaired, and dyslexia students as well as providing resource support to intermediate (5th-6th) and middle schoolers in 6th-8th grade. As a HIPPY Home Visitor, she empowered parents of 3-5-year-olds to teach reading and math readiness skills. For over 13 years, she has dedicated herself to teaching and/or tutoring kindergarten through fourth-grade students' math and reading skills. Her focus has been to build her students' confidence to improve academic progress, regardless of their academic or other challenges.

Ms. Mitchell has held leadership positions and worked cooperatively with other professionals on various levels. She has actively participated in school-wide leadership committees, provided leadership to new teachers, and held grade-level team leadership positions. In March 2024, Ms. Mitchell joined the Board of Directors of NDR Bobcat Alumni Association which supports high school students in New Orleans, Louisiana. As a business owner and alumni, she has found a way to give back to her hometown and high school.

 

Ms. Mitchell is known for building confidence, providing effective intervention, working closely with educators, and building relationships with families. Most importantly, she is known for changing the lives of her students.
